Warts: blowout of highlights

Digital images are particularly vulnerable to blowout of highlights

Any pixel where the exposure exceeds 255 (in a JPEG image) will be represented at that number

The example at right has massive blowout where all detail is lost

The pile-up of pixels at the right edge of the histogram shows the blown-out pixels

Digital is especially unforgiving because it is what engineers call hard limiting, where there is no zone of transition
